Continuation

She stepped past him onto the wet boards and set the lantern on the gunwale. Its light moved over the hull, picking out the patch Henrik had made in the spring. The patch was holding. “I know it won’t,” she said. “Neither will the ferry on the far side. I saw it turn back an hour ago.” Henrik looked across the water. The far quay was a dark smear, the lamp on its mast barely visible. “Nobody’s crossing in that,” he said. “Then nobody’s expecting me.” She untied the bow line and coiled it. Her hands were steady, which surprised her. “You coming, or do you have somewhere else to be?” He was quiet a moment too long. She heard him breathe. Then he stepped in and took the stern line from her, and the boat dipped under his weight, and neither of them said anything about the envelope she had seen in his coat pocket that morning.

158 words. Check any new names or details against your story.

Limits and privacy

  • Free, with no sign-up. English only. Paste up to 6,000 characters of your scene. The shared tool limit is 6 runs a minute and 30 runs a day for each visitor.
  • Your passage and notes are sent to Bookeen and to a third-party AI model provider when you press the button. Bookeen does not store them, and the provider handles them under its own terms. Don’t paste anyone else’s unpublished work or confidential material.
  • The story notes are optional. Add the characters, the setting and your style so continuations stay consistent; they are used for that run only.
  • Requests for harmful or prohibited content are refused, and the result is checked before it is shown. A run does not spend Studio credits.

What Is an AI Story Writing Assistant?

An AI story writing assistant takes a passage you paste and does one job to it: continue, revise, change the dialogue or the description, change the length, or critique it. An AI story generator starts from a blank premise. A general AI writing assistant such as a chat can do any of those jobs if you prompt it, but it will not keep this page’s checks. The hard part is a continuation that renames your characters or a critique that quietly rewrites the scene. Revisions here are checked for names, numbers and dates. A critique is not allowed to quote more than ten words of your passage in a row.

How the AI Story Writing Assistant Works

Paste the scene

The assistant needs the passage, not a one-line idea. Notes about characters, setting and style are optional and last for that run only.

  • Up to 6,000 characters of the scene.
  • One action per run: continue, revise, dialogue, description, shorten, expand or critique.
  • A revision can take a short instruction such as “make it tighter”.

Apply that one action

Continue adds text after your passage. The other writing actions return a new version of the passage.

  • Revisions are checked so proper names, numbers and dates remain.
  • Shorten and expand are checked so the length moves in the direction you asked.
  • A failed check is retried once. You then see an error rather than a bad replacement.

Keep the critique separate

Critique does not replace your words. It returns three to six notes.

  • Notes can cover pacing, character, dialogue, description, voice, clarity, structure or consistency.
  • A note may not quote more than ten words of your passage in a row.
  • Nothing replaces the passage until you press the button that says so, and the last replacement can be undone.

Why Use This AI Story Writing Assistant

One scene, one action

Bookeen continues or revises the passage you paste, shows a before-and-after, and keeps a critique from becoming a rewrite.

A general assistant waits for a prompt

ChatGPT or Claude can also revise a scene if you explain the job. Use them when you want a conversation. Use this AI story writing assistant when the action and the checks are already set.

Who the AI Story Writing Assistant Is For

Writers stuck mid-scene

Use Continue when the next beat is the problem.

  • Paste the scene up to the stuck point.
  • Add who is in the room in the notes.
  • Read the continuation for new names.
  • Keep only the sentences you would have written.

Writers revising dialogue

Use the dialogue action when the talk is doing no work.

  • Add an instruction if you know what is wrong.
  • Reject a line that flattens a character.
  • Check that names survived.
  • Read it aloud before you replace the passage.

Writers who want a note, not a rewrite

Use Critique first when you cannot name the problem.

  • Expect a short list, not a new scene.
  • Apply one note yourself.
  • Ignore a note that misunderstands the genre.
  • Revise only after you agree with the point.

Editors helping a draft

Use it to see another version, then decide with the author.

  • Do not paste someone else’s unpublished work without permission.
  • Prefer Critique when the author should keep the sentences.
  • Undo a replacement if it was the wrong action.
  • Move a settled scene back into the manuscript.

How to use the AI Story Writing Assistant

  1. Paste the passage you are working on, and add story notes if you have them.
  2. Choose an action. For a revision, add a short instruction such as “make it tighter”.
  3. Press the button and read the suggestion. Revisions appear as a before-and-after you can undo piece by piece.
  4. Add the continuation or replace your passage, then keep writing. You can undo the last replacement.

How to Use the Suggestions

Treat it as a draft

A suggestion is a way to see another version of your scene. Keep the parts that sound like you and cut the rest.

Check names and facts

Revisions are checked so names, numbers and dates stay as written. Continuations can invent details, so check them against your story.

Use the critique first

If you are not sure what is wrong, run Critique. It points at pacing, dialogue, voice and clarity without rewriting a word of yours.

Keep the voice

Add a line about your style in the story notes, and reject any change that flattens your voice.

What the AI Story Writing Assistant Checks

One passage, one action

Your passage, the action you chose and your optional notes go to an AI model with instructions for that action. Continue adds a new section after your passage. Revise, dialogue, description, shorten and expand return a new version of your passage.

Checks on revisions

For revisions, Bookeen checks that proper names are still there and that numbers and dates are unchanged. For shorten and expand it checks the length moved in the right direction. A result that fails is retried once, then you see an error rather than a bad result.

A critique that doesn’t rewrite

Critique returns three to six notes on aspects such as pacing, character, dialogue and voice. A note is not allowed to quote more than ten words of your passage in a row, so it can’t become a rewrite in disguise.

You stay in control

Nothing replaces your passage until you press the button, and the last replacement can be undone.

Frequently asked questions

Can I undo a replacement?

Yes. The last replacement can be undone. Nothing replaces your passage until you press the button that applies it.
