How to Sell eBooks Online with Bookeen

Selling an ebook starts before the upload. Decide who it serves, finish a book worth reading and choose a channel that fits how you will reach buyers. This guide connects that sales plan to the manuscript you develop in Bookeen, an AI book creator.

How to sell ebooks online: the practical sequence

Choose a specific reader, review the manuscript and reading files, compare a bookstore with direct sales, set a price after fees, prepare the listing, launch to a relevant audience and review the results. Bookeen supports the writing and revision work; you still manage the seller account, publishing checks and sales channel.

Define the ebook offer before choosing a store

Write one sentence naming the reader and what the book offers. A practical ebook might help a first-time manager prepare a feedback conversation. A novel might offer a particular genre, setting and reading experience. The sales description should match what is actually inside the book.

Use the questions below as a planning exercise. They do not predict demand. Read comparable listings, talk with potential readers and note the language people use to describe the problem or reading experience. Bring those observations to the Bookeen book creator before expanding an outline.

  • Who would choose this ebook, and in what situation?
  • What can a sample chapter demonstrate without exaggerated promises?
  • Where can you reach those readers, and why would they trust the offer?

1. Choose a reader and a clear promise

To sell ebooks online, start with a reason to buy. “A guide to management” leaves the reader guessing. “A practical guide to preparing your first feedback conversation” states a narrower task. Keep the promise proportional to the material: a worksheet can help someone prepare; it cannot guarantee a workplace outcome.

In Bookeen, use that reader description to review the outline. Each chapter should contribute to the promised experience. If the manuscript serves several unrelated audiences, decide whether it needs a tighter scope before trying to fix the sales copy.

Checkpoint: The title, outline and intended reader describe the same book.

Bookeen: choose a reader and a clear promise
Review this ebook outline against my reader and promise. Identify chapters that serve a different audience. Ask for missing context instead of inventing customer research.

2. Prepare an ebook readers can use

Review the manuscript, cover, contents, links and rights before listing it. Read the exported edition on the screens you expect readers to use. EPUB suits adjustable digital text; PDF preserves a fixed layout. A correct-looking source document does not replace checking the actual delivery file.

When using Bookeen or another AI book creator, review the generated material yourself and keep track of its origin. Amazon KDP requires disclosure of AI-generated text, images or translations, including material edited afterward. Its policy distinguishes AI-assisted work. Check the current rules at submission; editorial review does not remove a disclosure requirement.

Checkpoint: You have reviewed the reading file and can account for the text, images and permissions.

Bookeen: prepare an ebook readers can use
Review this chapter for unclear instructions, unsupported claims and inconsistencies. List questions for me to resolve; do not invent evidence, permissions or an endorsement.

3. Choose a bookstore or a direct-sales channel

A bookstore such as Amazon Kindle, Apple Books or Kobo places the ebook in an existing reading and purchase environment. A direct-sales service such as Gumroad or Payhip lets you send readers to a product checkout. Neither route guarantees discovery. Compare where your intended readers buy with how you will actually reach them.

You can plan wider distribution across compatible channels, but check agreements before doing so. KDP Select has a digital exclusivity requirement during its enrollment period. Decide that constraint before promising buyers the same ebook from your own store. Use the companion calculator to compare the listed costs under one scenario.

Checkpoint: Your channel plan matches both the reader and your distribution commitments.

Compare these candidate channels against my audience, existing reach and distribution constraints. Separate facts I supplied from assumptions I need to verify.

4. Set an ebook price after fees

A royalty percentage is only part of pricing. Amazon KDP offers 35% and conditional 70% options; the latter deducts delivery costs inside the royalty calculation. In the United States, its current 70% price band is $2.99–$12.99. Eligibility also depends on other requirements, including territory and the required discount from any physical edition.

Direct-sale fixed fees matter especially for low-priced ebooks. Model a few plausible prices in the take-home calculator, then compare the reader offer with relevant books. Keep production and marketing costs separate from platform proceeds. An estimate at 100 sales is arithmetic, not evidence that 100 buyers will appear.

Checkpoint: You can explain the price to a reader and estimate the listed costs of a sale.

Bookeen: set an ebook price after fees
Help me compare these ebook prices using the costs I provide. Keep sales volume hypothetical. Do not choose a price only because it produces the largest total.

5. Build a listing that matches the manuscript

Prepare a title, cover, description and useful preview. Open with the reader’s situation or the reading experience; explain the contents with specific examples. For a practical guide, name the exercises or decisions it covers. For fiction, establish genre and the central premise without turning the description into a plot summary.

Ask the Bookeen book creator to draft from the finished material, then check every claim. Remove invented testimonials, awards and outcome promises. Confirm that the title and author details are consistent across the cover, file and store fields. Follow each store’s metadata rules instead of inserting unrelated search phrases.

Checkpoint: A buyer can tell what is included, and every descriptive claim is supported.

Bookeen: build a listing that matches the manuscript
Draft a concise sales description using only this approved outline and sample. Include three concrete contents points. Flag missing facts; do not fabricate reviews, credentials or results.

6. Plan a launch you can actually deliver

Choose the first audience you can contact appropriately: subscribers who requested updates, readers of a relevant article or an existing community that permits promotion. Prepare a short announcement, a working product link and a sample where your distribution agreement allows it. Explain who the ebook is for and what the reader can inspect before buying.

Before announcing, use the platform’s available preview or test process to check the listing, checkout and delivery instructions. Record where buyers should ask for help and how updates will be communicated. A launch checklist is more useful than a claim that uploading to several stores will generate sales on its own.

Checkpoint: The purchase path and support information have been checked before you send traffic.

Bookeen: plan a launch you can actually deliver
Turn these approved release materials into a launch checklist. Include link checks, delivery instructions and support details. Do not invent an audience size or send messages.

7. Review sales and improve one decision

Separate visits, paid orders, refunds and proceeds. A low order count alone does not tell you whether the issue is reach, the offer or checkout. Use the information your sales platform actually provides, read buyer questions and keep a dated note of the price and description used for each period.

Review one change at a time where practical: a clearer sample, a more specific description or a revised chapter that answers recurring questions. Bookeen can help organize feedback and revise the manuscript. Keep conclusions modest when the sample is small; a few sales do not establish a dependable conversion rate.

Checkpoint: You have a record of what changed and enough context to interpret the result.

Bookeen: review sales and improve one decision
Group this anonymized reader feedback into clarity, missing content and purchasing questions. Suggest revisions tied to the feedback. Do not infer statistical certainty from this small sample.

An ebook sales plan example

This is an invented planning example, not a Bookeen customer result or sales forecast.

Reader
A first-time manager preparing a feedback conversation.
Ebook offer
A short guide with a preparation checklist, worked conversation examples and a reflection worksheet.
Writing task
Use Bookeen to draft from the approved outline, then review the examples for clarity and realistic limits.
Channel question
Can the author reach readers directly, or do the readers prefer buying through a bookstore?
Pricing exercise
Compare a hypothetical $4.99 ebook at the same sales count across the calculator’s alternatives.

The useful connection is between the promised reader task, the actual chapters and the listing. The book creator helps develop the material; it does not supply proof of demand. Test the assumptions before treating this example as a business plan.

Selling ebooks widely or choosing KDP Select

KDP Select is a 90-day enrollment program with digital exclusivity and access to Kindle Unlimited. Ordinary KDP publishing and KDP Select are different choices.

During enrollment, the digital ebook cannot also be sold or given away in full through your website, newsletter or another ordinary ebook store. KDP describes permitted public-library channels separately. Review those terms before arranging distribution. Select renews unless you turn off renewal; ending renewal does not cancel the current enrollment period.

Kindle Unlimited pays through a monthly fund and eligible normalized pages read. It is not a fixed payment per printed page and is not included in the per-sale calculator. A US ebook can qualify for KDP’s 70% sale royalty without joining Select, subject to the other requirements. Decide based on the distribution plan you can support, not a promised income figure.

Prepare the book you want to sell with Bookeen

Bookeen is an AI book creator for developing an outline, drafting chapters and working through revisions. Bring the sales promise back into the writing process: the material should answer the expectations your listing creates.

Use a focused request for each revision. Keep the approved manuscript, cover information and sales description consistent. Seller registration, pricing, rights checks and platform submission remain separate publishing tasks.

  • Review the outline against a named reader and a specific promise.
  • Ask Bookeen for chapter revisions grounded in your own material.
  • Check the final reading file before making it available to buyers.

How to sell ebooks online: questions answered

Can I sell ebooks on Amazon and my own website?

Ordinary KDP publishing does not itself require KDP Select enrollment. If the ebook is enrolled in Select, its digital exclusivity restricts selling or giving away the same full ebook through your website during the enrollment period. Check the current agreement before offering both.

What is the best price for an ebook?

There is no universal price. Compare the reader offer, relevant books and channel costs. The US KDP 70% price band is currently $2.99–$12.99, but that band is an eligibility condition, not a recommendation that every ebook should use the same price.

Do I need an ISBN to sell a Kindle ebook?

Amazon KDP does not require an ISBN for a Kindle ebook. Requirements differ by format and channel, so check the actual destination before buying an identifier or assuming one rule applies to every edition.

Can I sell an ebook created with AI assistance?

Review your rights, the material and the destination’s rules. KDP distinguishes AI-generated content, which it requires you to disclose, from AI-assisted work. Using a book creator does not remove your responsibility for accuracy, permissions or publishing compliance.

How much money can I make selling ebooks?

That depends on actual sales, fees and costs. The calculator compares proceeds for inputs you choose; it does not predict buyers, advertising performance or income. Track real orders and expenses before drawing conclusions.

Does Bookeen publish the ebook to these stores for me?

This guide describes preparing a manuscript with Bookeen and handling platform publishing separately. It does not promise automatic submission, store approval or sales. Use your own seller account and verify each destination’s requirements.
